Opeth Issue Lovelorn Animated Short Film Behind ‘Ingen Sanning Ar Allas’
On Monday (Nov. 25), Opeth released an animated music video for the seven-minute-long “Ingen Sanning Är Allas,” a track from September’s In Cauda Venenum. The song is called “Universal Truth” on the English version of the latest album from the veteran Swedish progressive metal act.
Written and directed by Jess Cope with production from John Cope and animation by Dan Jacobs and Luke Simpson, the imaginative short film presents a doomed love story among two marionettes. Watch the artistic take on Opeth’s “Ingen Sanning Är Allas” down toward the bottom of this post.
Perhaps the marionette theme should come as no surprise to Opeth fans. After all, the band sampled a Swedish puppet show on In Cauda Venenum‘s second single, “Heart in Hand,” released in July. “It’s taken from a children’s show that was on in the 1970s,” frontman Mikael Akerfeldt told Loudwire the following month. “It’s like a guy who owns a landfill, a metal scrap yard. It’s a puppet show; lovely.”
The Swedish (“Hjärtat Vet Vad Handen Gör”) and English versions of the “Heart in Hand” single — which represent 17 total minutes of music — were followed by August’s similarly dual release of “Dignity” (“Svekets Prins”). A few weeks ago, Akerfeldt appeared on Loudwire’s video series Off the Record.
Early next year, Opeth hit the road in the United States with fellow rockers Graveyard. Tickets went on sale last month for the trek that kicks off Feb. 13, 2020, at Cleveland’s Agora Ballroom before winding its way around the East Coast, Canada, the Southwestern U.S. and West Coast.
