FAN POLL: 5 BANDS MOST LIKELY TO BREAKOUT IN 2019 via REVOLVER MAGAZINE
From Code Orange‘s Forever to Turnstile‘s Time & Space, the last couple of years have seen stellar breakout albums from a new crop of young, hungry, attitude-heavy and (often) fun-loving artists. In this modern digital age, there’s more bands and tracks and chatter than ever before, so it can be hard to sift through the static and predict who will rise to the top of the class. (Greta Van Fleet are still an astounding example that no one, or maybe everyone, saw coming). We know our faves, but we wanted to ask you, what band do you think is poised to break big this year? See what you chose in the ranked list below.
5. Avatar
It’s not hard to see why fans voted for Avatar as one 2019’s breakout bands after taking a look at the world the group has created. The Swedish quintet’s theatricality ties in directly with a whole storyline created around its songs, with the band members serving as representatives for a fictionalized country made entirely out of heavy-metal references. Of course, musically, Avatar rip, too, which may be the main reason they’ve united so many around their vision.
4. Knocked Loose
With their latest single, the jaw-droppingly crushing “Mistakes Like Fractures,” Knocked Loose have made it very clear they are not fucking around in 2019. Fans have taken notice — and the band has many fans. Beyond their hard-as-hell riffs, feral vocals and quickly maturing songcraft, the metallic hardcore crew has built up a real sense of community around themselves. Keep an eye out for what they’ll be doing.
3. Saul
To be completely transparent, none of us at Revolver HQ were particularly familiar with Iowa metal crew Saul before this fan poll. But a zealous fan base voted the group into a high spot on the list, and the band do their thing well. For the uninitiated, Saul call upon diverse influences ranging from Tool and Pearl Jam to Nothing More and Tesseract to create their own catchy yet heavy take on the alternative-metal genre. A lot of people clearly want them to succeed, and they should be stoked on it.
2. Jinjer
Jinjer’s star is quickly rising, in large part thanks to singer Tatiana Shmailyuk’s incredible abilities as well as the group’s skill in seamlessly blending R&B-inflected nu-metal with progressive death-groove. Citing everyone from Opeth to Cypress Hill as inspiration, Jinjer’s unique amalgamation stands tall among the throngs of dime-a-dozen acts. Check out their latest EP Micro for a small dose of why they’re causing such a stir.
1. 3Teeth
With the stamp of approval from Tool and Rammstein already upon them, 3Teeth are set to return this year with a new record, a European tour with industrial juggernauts Ministry and a hell of a lot more — anticipation is high, so it’s not hard to see why they led the fan vote for breakout band of 2019. Their savage, seething take on the hot-again industrial-metal genre is hard, sexy and full of revolutionary spirit; the L.A. group is poised to take the scene by the throat and squeeze.
