SEE BILL MURRAY FIGHT ALL-STAR ZOMBIE CAST IN HILARIOUS ‘THE DEAD DON’T DIE’ TRAILER
Veering away from his generally more arthouse-centric oeuvre, famed underground New York director Jim Jarmusch has taken on yet another horror trope (2014’s Only Lovers Left Alive was a vampire romance) and injected it with a hefty sense of humor for his upcoming film The Dead Don’t Die.
Starring Bill Murray, Chloe Sevigny, and Adam Driver as small town cops looking to solve the mystery of why their neck of the woods is suddenly overrun with the brain-eating undead, the horror comedy touts itself as having “the greatest zombie cast ever disassembled.” The trailer features cameos from greats like Iggy Pop as a coffee-craving dead walker, Tom Waits as a wild-haired local who’s seen some shit (a real stretch, huh?), Tilda Swinton as an eccentric mortuary makeup artist, Wu Tang Clan rapper RZA, and even pop star Selena Gomez.
Unlike the romanticized tragedy in Only Lovers, Jarmusch has taken his new interest in the darker side of filmmaking to a new level of surrealistic humor. One scene shows Driver leaning out the side of a squad car, politely saying “Excuse me” to a zombie before slashing into his skull with a huge machete. The understated jokes and subdued roles taken on by the stunningly stacked cast will surely lend itself to the director’s offbeat brand of funny, making this a must-see for lovers of gore and camp alike.
The Dead Don’t Die is out via Focus Features on June 14th. See below for the official poster and full cast listing.
