The first new song from the group in four years will appear on the soundtrack to the upcoming Netflix biopic.
For anyone wondering whether mascara metal icons Mötley Crüe could find an elegant way to work rapper Machine Gun Kelly into the mix on their new collaboration, chill out, they got this. After weeks of teases, the unlikely supergroup dropped the grinding single “The Dirt (Est. 1981),” on Friday (Feb. 22) and it’s pretty much exactly what you’d expect from this odd couple pairing.
The four-minute single launches with some blitzing guitars, Tommy Lee’s walloping drum beats and singer Vince Neil wailing “Gimme the dirt/ Just gimme the dirt/ Just gimme what I want til it hurts/ Just gimme the dirt/ Gimme the dirt/ Let’s take it to the top and watch it burn” in his classic circa-1989 debauched sneer. A leaner, shinier version of the band’s classic glam metal, the song’s chorus is custom-built for shouting out while throwing up some metal and MGK’s rap mid-way through adds the perfect grimy, modern twist.

“More sex, more tats, more blood, more pain… Late night ride down the Sunset Strip/ New bike with the plate reading ‘666’,” MGK raps in a gravely voice over an ominous riff, reeling off a panoply of Crüe-approved topics, including cocaine, fast bikes and well-endowed strippers. MGK plays Mötley drummer Lee in the movie and “The Dirt” is one of four new songs the original band recorded for the upcoming Netflix biopic The Dirt, based on the 2001 best-selling band autobiography of the same name.
The Jeff Tremaine-directed film will debut on Netflix on March 22.
