Information and misinformation continues to swirl around the impending release of the long-awaited new Tool album, so singer Maynard James Keenan took to Twitter today (February 8th) and clarified an earlier statement by the group’s drummer Danny Carey.

Perhaps sensing fans’ irritation with the mixed messages coming from the Tool camp, Keenan posted, “Update- Midway through mixing. Most likely be a few recalls. Then some arguing. Then Mastering, Artwork, Video, Special Packaging, etc. Best Ballpark Guess- Release date somewhere between Mid May and Mid July. More focused updates to follow as we progress.” Ever the sly contrarian, the frontman used the hashtag #simplemath and added a meme showing a photo of Pantera with the caption “If you’re a real Megadeth fan, name one song other than ‘Enter Sandman.'”View image on Twitter

Keenan’s last Twitter update on the album came January 4th when he claimed the finished vocals were “tracked MONTHS ago,” ahead of his tour with A Perfect Circle. Just a few days ago, he responded to a fan’s inquiry about an April release date with a simple “No.” The band recently updated their official site with psychedelic biomechanical animations, perhaps setting the aesthetic ground for the as-yet-untitled release. Tool’s next scheduled show is scheduled for May 5th at the Rockville Festival in Jacksonville, Florida.
