We’ve come a long way accepting the dark world and stigma that encompasses metal culture, but in the smaller communities around the world, things are still beginning to take shape. Metal From the Dirt explores heavy music that takes root in Navajo culture. In this short film, Mike Martinez and Tyler Wray of Everything Is Stories spends a week in the American Southwest documenting the little known stories of the DIY “rez”–short for reservation– metal scene. Through lifers of the scene and newer bands like I Dont Konform, Mutilated Tyrant, and Born of Winter popping up on the reservation, we catch a glimpse of what life is like among the Navajo people.
